The provision of our in-house physiotherapists and pharmacist ensure your departure and care from the clinic is well planned and managed once home.

Mr Caspar Aylott

B.Eng(Hons), MB ChB, MRCS, FRCS (Tr Orth), DM

Mr Caspar Aylott is one of the UK’s leading orthopaedic spinal surgeons, uniquely dual qualified in the UK both as an Engineer and Spinal Surgeon. He has a degree in Mechanical and Materials Engineering (Nottingham University 1993), Doctor (Leicester University 1998), and higher surgical training in Bristol achieving FRCS Trauma and Orthopaedics 2008. He also has a Doctorate from Nottingham University in spinal biomechanics and motion preserving technologies in the spine.

Caspar is an expert in the diagnosis and management of all conditions affecting the back and neck specialising in both conservative and surgical treatments. His expertise includes spinal rehabilitation, spine injections, ‘keyhole surgery’, fusion and non-fusion (motion preserving) techniques, and cement augmentation of osteoporotic spine fractures.

He now works in London and Cheltenham seeing patients from across the UK and abroad. He has successfully treated more than 10,000 patients and is a highly experienced Consultant at the UK Spine Centre. Before this Mr Aylott worked as an Honorary Consultant Spine Surgeon in Bristol and subsequently Consultant Spine Surgeon in the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust from 2010.

In addition to his clinical work he is continuously involved with research and has more than 50 published papers, abstracts and presentations at International and National meetings.

Caspar is a very friendly and approachable Consultant and a highly regarded teacher and trainer. His qualifications and experience have enabled him to be a European Faculty Trainer for surgeons in several minimal invasive techniques including Balloon Kyphoplasty and Dynamic Stabilisation, teaching roles he especially enjoys.

He also gives talks in schools to prospective future doctors and helps sixth formers prepare for medical school interviews and vivas.

He highlights the importance of clear communication and always gives his patients the time they need to make individual and informed choices. He is much liked by his patients who constantly review him highly.

Caspar has three young daughters who keep him on his toes. He is a former Cathedral chorister and an accomplished pianist. He is a competitive racket sports player and enjoys extreme fishing, windsurfing and skiing.

Mr Mo Akmal

MBBS MD BSc (Hons) FRCS (Orth)

Mr Mo Akmal is one of London’s leading orthopaedic spinal surgeons. He graduated at Imperial College, London and completed his spinal fellowship training at Oxford. Mr Akmal is internationally renowned for his experience in managing spinal trauma. He is also an honorary consultant at the Royal Marsden Hospital and a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons.

His clinical interests include minimally invasive spinal surgery, back pain, trauma and complex spinal tumour surgery. Orthopaedic training on rotation included 3 years at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, 3 years at The Royal London Hospital, 1 year at University College Hospital and 1 year in Oxford for specialist spinal surgery fellowship training. He has published and lectured widely on spinal disc and cartilage tissue engineering, osteoporotic fractures, spinal trauma and rehabilitation.

He has a strong commitment to Education and Training and Currently runs the Annual Educational Course for International delegates on Spinal disorders at the Royal College of Surgeons and runs a fellowship program for higher surgical trainees and is an examiner for the final MBBS exams at Imperial College.

Mr Akmal’s pioneering work was recently featured in one of London’s most popular and widely read newspapers “The Evening Standard”.

Mr Akmal is one of the leading voices in the promotion of osteoporotic fracture prevention. He is a board member of The international Society for Fracture Repair and is actively engaged in an educational campaign for the early treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. He has been performing balloon kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty for vertebral compression fractures and is on the steering committee for the Osteoporotic Fracture Campaign.

Mr Ahmed Hussein

MB BCh, MSc, FRCS, FRCS (Neuro.Surg)

Mr Ahmed Hussein trained in Neurosurgery in South Thames rotation including King’s College Hospital, and Atkins Morley Hospital. He also worked at the Spinal Unit in Nottingham. He obtained his CCST in neurosurgery in 2002 and he is on the Specialist register.

He has a Master Degree, and he is currently doing a Master Degree in Health Informatics. He has done Consultant neurosurgeon jobs. He is currently working with the Spinal orthopaedic team at ST Marys and HJE.

Mr Hussein is a neurosurgeon who has extensive experience in all aspects of Spinal surgery including trauma, degenerative disorders, infection, and tumour. He has particular interest in degenerative spine both in the lumbar and cervical spine.
