Frequently asked questions about Video Consultations

How long do spine injections last?

Since all back problems are caused by different problems it varies from person to person. Generally, though, our patients tend to experience relief that can last anywhere from a few weeks to several months to permanently. Injections are aimed at reducing pain levels so that you can become active again helping the body strengthen the spine-supporting muscles.  Our goal is to tailor a plan that gets you moving more comfortably and enjoying life to its fullest. We’ll work closely with you to figure out what works best for your specific situation.

Will I need a repeat injection?

It’s a great question and quite understandable to wonder about the need for repeat injections. The short answer is: it depends on your specific problem and how your body reacts to the initial treatment. For many patients, a single injection brings significant relief for a considerable period and engaging in physical activity will help strengthen the muscles supporting the spine reducing the occurrences of back pain. In some cases injections enable us to determine exactly where the pain is coming from. We’ll monitor your progress closely and help you decide if and when a repeat injection might be beneficial, or if surgery might be a more definitive solution, always aiming to ensure your quality of life is at its best.

What are the risks of a spine injection?

Like any medical procedure, spine injections come with their own set of potential risks and side effects. While these injections are generally safe and complications are rare, it’s important to be aware of what could happen. Potential risks include infection at the injection site, bleeding, nerve damage, or an allergic reaction to the medication used. Some patients might also experience side effects like temporary soreness at the injection site, a flushing of the face, or a brief change in blood sugar levels.

Rest assured, we take all necessary precautions to minimize these risks, using the latest techniques and monitoring you closely during and after the procedure. Your well-being is our top priority, and we’re always available to discuss any concerns or questions you might have about the treatment.

Will I need to stay in the hospital if I have a spine injection?

No! One of the great aspects of receiving a spine injection is that it’s an outpatient procedure, which means you can head home the very same day. The process itself is relatively quick, and recovery time at our state of the art hospital is short. After the injection, we’ll keep an eye on you for a brief period to ensure everything is okay and you’re feeling alright before sending you on your way. Most of our patients are up and moving with no trouble shortly after, ready to enjoy the rest of their day. Of course, we’ll provide you with all the necessary aftercare instructions and support to make your recovery as smooth as possible. This includes a 6 week follow-up appointment with Mr Caspar Aylott to review your progress and path to full recovery.
