Knowledge Centre: Mr Caspar Aylott

Mr Caspar Aylott is an internationally trained Consultant Spinal Surgeon having completed Fellowships in New Zealand, Bristol and Nottingham. He is uniquely dual qualified in the UK as a surgeon and a mechanical and materials engineer and also has a Doctorate in motion preserving technologies in the spine. He is the lead Spine Consultant at the UK Spine Centre in London and also Cheltenham, and is an expert in both the conservative and surgical management of spine problems. He has a busy spine practice treating complex spinal problems from neck to lower back, in patients from around the world. He passionately believes in the importance of making an accurate diagnosis and communicating this openly and clearly to his patients, enabling a personalised and sensible treatment plan to be outlined. He specialises in microdiscectomy, decompression, non-fusion motion-preserving techniques including disc replacement, minimal access surgery, spine injections, spinal fusion for adult deformity and balloon kyphoplasty for spinal fractures. Most surgery is performed in a minimally invasive way, and most surgery including fusion cases are uniquely achieved as day case surgery. Mr Aylott is a passionate about good quality training and has held academic teaching posts at Bristol and Leicester Universities supervising medical students and Fellows including examining. He lectures around the world including France, Spain, UK, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Brazil, Chile. He works collaboratively with engineers in spinal implant design and development. He has published and presented more than 40 academic papers and is a reviewer for the Bone and Spine journals and member of the British Association of Spine Surgeons (BASS). He is legally qualified and regularly instructed as an Expert in complex personal injury, medical negligence and regulatory matters.
